we’re set in our ways

we don’t let pillows touch the floor

we’re faithless

but our beds are sacred

we hold on to objects like they’re treasures

we’re the oldest of three

we keep documents in the attic

we keep tabs on our exes

if it’s your birthday we’ll call you

we’ll make sure the others do too

we’ll get a present

and wrap it nice

because that’s how Renée likes it

but we won’t know what to get you

we show up to weddings and funerals that are continents away

we’re loyal

we’re simple

we marry well

we love devoutly

but it’s not enough

our lovers are starved

and picked to pieces

we’re scared

and we’d be happy with a family to come home to

as long as they’re healthy
